Introduction

When it comes to choosing a booster car seat in the UK, the Graco Nautilus LX Harnessed Booster Car Seat is a top contender. The Graco Nautilus LX also grows with your child, offering convertibility to a backless booster that can be used until your child’s teenage years. But how does it fare in terms of safety, convenience, and comfort? Let’s delve deeper in this in-depth review of Graco Nautilus LX Harnessed Booster Car Seat!

Overview

Designed to grow with your child,  this impressive booster car seat offers easy transitions between a 5-point harness (22-65 lb), a highback booster (40-100 lb), and a backless booster seat (40-120 lb), making it suitable until your child can seat without a booster seat. Despite the lack of ISOFIX feature, the Simply Safe Adjust™ Harness System makes transitions a breeze while ensuring that your child is always secure and comfortable. A cozy body insert, a personal cup holder, and a storage compartment provide added convenience and luxury. It’s built to last, too, with a steel-reinforced frame and energy-absorbing EPS foam that makes it as sturdy as it is plush.

Installation and Ease of Use

When it comes to installation and ease of use, the Graco® Nautilus® 65 LX 3-in-1 harness booster holds its own. The booster can be attached to your car using either LATCH with its hook style connectors or the car’s standard belt, depending on your child’s size and your car’s design. This gives the added advantage that the booster stays secure when your child isn’t in the seat, preventing it from becoming unstable.

The minor downside is that your little one has to reach the back of the seat to buckle its 5-point harness. However, the headrest release button is easily accessible and can be adjusted using just one hand, even when the seat is occupied.

There’s a cup holder placed at the end of the right armrest and handy trays recessed under both armrests, providing a place for your child’s favorite drink and some extra storage. This makes it comfortable for long journeys.

Safety Features

Safety is what also separates the Graco Nautilus LX Harnessed Booster Car Seat from the rest. Equipped with a five-point harness system, it securely holds your little one in place and effectively distributes crash forces, minimizing the risk of injury. It also has a top-notch side-impact protection, and with the EPS, energy-absorbing foam, it effectively absorbs impact when there’s a crash. Plus, the steel-reinforced frame also adds extra strength and durability. Graco claimed that this booster car seat has crash tested to meet the US standard FMVSS 213.

Comfort

While the Graco Nautilus LX excels in terms of convertibility, we think it has a lot of room to improve when it comes to comfort. Both the seat and headrest are padded, but we think it could have been thicker and plusher given it’s a rather expensive booster seat. The 5-position adjustable headrest is great to suit different stages of your child’s growing phase, but the 3 recline position is quite limited compared to other options.

Weight and Size

The Graco Nautilus LX Harnessed Booster Car Seat weighs at 19.1 lbs when the back is attached and has a dimension of 49.6D x 52.3W x 87H cm. This makes it on the heavier and bulkier side, but we think it’s standard for a car seat that’s convertible to suit your child’s different years. You can convert it into a more compact backless form when your child has reached 18kg in weight for more portability.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Versatile 3-in-1 design for extended use
  • Enhanced safety features, including a five-point harness and side-impact protection
  • User-friendly installation process
  • Adjustable headrest and harness for optimal comfort and fit
  • Durable construction for long-term use

Cons:

  • Bulkier size may not fit well in smaller vehicles
  • Limited color options available

Verdict

The Graco Nautilus LX Harnessed Booster Car Seat is a standout choice for parents seeking a reliable, versatile, and comfortable car seat. With its 3-in-1 design, enhanced safety features, and user-friendly installation process, it provides peace of mind and convenience. The seat’s plush padding, adjustable headrest, and multiple recline positions ensure optimal comfort for your growing child. While it may have a bulkier size and limited color options, the overall performance, durability, and adaptability of the Graco Nautilus LX Harnessed Booster Car Seat make it a worthwhile investment for families in need of a secure and comfortable car seat solution.
