Congratulations! You’re pregnant with baby number 2! We know you’re likely feeling a little overwhelmed about the prospect of having two little ones running around, but things will become second nature before you know it.
The good news is, you shouldn’t have to buy too many things as you should be able to re-use your first baby’s things.
From baby bouncers that make feeding time a breeze to a playpen that will keep them safe and sound, here’s what you need to invest in for baby number 2.
Should I create a baby registry for my second baby?
Definitely! Creating a baby registry on Amazon is a great way to keep track of the items you actually want and is perfect to share out with friends and family who don’t know what to buy you.
Plus, there are plenty of perks to setting up an Amazon baby registry too as you can get discounts and free items! All of the items listed below are perfect to add to your baby registry and we’ve split the checklist into must-have items and the ‘makes life easier’ items.
Nappies and wipes
Plenty of nappies and wipes are essential! Your newborn will go through tonnes of nappies a day (and each week) so it’s worth stocking up as much as you can.
It’s hard to tell what size nappies your baby will need ahead of time, so it’s well worth buying a few packs of each size to go into your hospital bag.
Make sure you have plenty of non-scented, alcohol-free wet wipes too as these are soft and gentle on the baby’s nappy area during changes.
Changing mat or table
A changing table is incredibly handy for when you need to change nappies without breaking your bag.
Its also something that you might have forgotten about or got rid of if your oldest is toilet trained or no longer using nappies.
You can also get travel versions and the pads often roll up compactly so you can just pop in your changing backpack and use it whenever you need to.
Muslin cloths
Occasionally your baby will bring up milk when you burp them after feeding. It’s completely normal and harmless but can get everywhere which is why we recommend investing in plenty of muslin cloths or squares to help protect your clothing and wipe-up any spillages.
Baby Bouncer
You probably already know from your first baby how much they love to be bounced, whether that’s in your arms or rocked back and forth in their car seat.
This soothing motion can settle even the fussiest of babies, sending them off into a peaceful slumber when they’re particularly tired and soothing them when they’re not feeling their best.
But sometimes, you also need to do things for you, like grabbing a shower or doing some household chores – and that’s where a baby bouncer comes in.
Baby bouncers are easy, functional, and fun seats that have a bouncing motion to keep your little one safe, happy, and engaged whilst you can get on with parts of your everyday life.
They’re particularly great for newborns and children that can’t yet sit up unaided as they often support their head.
You will find that many baby bouncers come with added details like toys, with some even singing lullabies or playing white noise!
If a bouncer isnty for you you could also check out baby swings or when they are a little older, baby jumpers or jumperoos.
Baby Swing
There’s no doubt about it, caring for one baby is a lot of work and caring for two can be intense.
While some babies are happy being left in their Moses basket or crib when you are getting on with your daily chores, others just want to be rocked and held.
That’s why a baby swing is a must-have piece of baby gear for many second-time parents.
Not only does a baby swing allow you to put your little one down in a safe place (and save your arms), but it also allows you to get on with your daily tasks while soothing your little one through a gentle swinging and rocking motion.
Other benefits of a baby swing include; aiding development, stimulating your little one’s sensory system, helping with acid reflux and keeping your baby cool.
Playpen
When you’re busy with a newborn, a playpen can come in handy for your second child as you don’t have to worry about them running off and getting somewhere they shouldn’t.
There are a variety of playpens available on the market but our favourite playpens are ones that can entertain your toddler, be packed away neatly and compactly, and keep your toddler safe.
Changing backpack
Having two children with different needs (nappy sizes, change of clothes, muslin cloths, milk requirements etc) requires a decent changing backpack.
You will need one big enough to have all the space required to pack everything you need for an outing, but also one that’s convenient enough to carry on your shoulders.
Bath seat
If you think bathing one baby is stressful, try bathing a toddler and a newborn together.
You’ll end up with a bathroom that resembles the ocean if you’re not careful so it’s for this reason we recommend bath seats that allow you to bathe both your baby and toddler with minimal fuss.
Baby carrier
Baby carriers are great for keeping your newborn baby close, especially when you have an excited toddler on your hands too! They’re available in a variety of styles from wraps and slings through to more sturdy backpacks.
Bare in mind that some baby carriers may need to be worn differently depending on the age and size of your little one. You also need to ensure that your newborn is correctly positioned, with their leg in the M position and with a curved back.
If you’re unsure, your midwife or health visitor can usually help you with this.
